Yummies: ICE CREAM TRUCK! ICE CREAM TRUCK!

So this weekend at the super fun birthday party of Miss Me's adorable 7 year old nephew, the parents got to talking about all the yummy candy that was around when we were kids! This conversation was inspired by a post done on T-W-H all about 80's candy.

It got me thinking about all the other fun and delicious things I miss about being a kid. And even though we are in the midst of a super crazy rainstorm... My mind turns to long, hot, summer days.

Days spent playing from sunrise to streetlights with your friends from the block. Sweaty and sticky, grass-stains, your hair crunchy from drying in the sun after a swim in the ocean.

Being chased by your big brother and his friends, pretending to hate boys but really loving every second of it.

Just a bunch of sun-kissed kids drinking every drop of summer and not realizing they are in the glory of their youth.

And everyday of every summer at just the perfect moment..... You would hear it from around the corner, kids yelling.... A light twinkling sound ringing out....

ICE CREAM TRUCK! ICE CREAM TRUCK!

Every kid on the block would start running! Send the little ones back inside to get the money from mom! Older brothers and sisters will hold the spot in line! It's the ICE CREAM TRUCK!

What were you favorite treats from the big white truck?

Here are a few of ours.

LOVE LOVE LOVED us some froze toes! What? With the big blue bubble gum toe? Hell yes!

Of Course you could always go for the classic Bomb Pop! Lemon flavor in the middle, because it is the least yummy flavor.... But the start and finish flavors are the bomb. (hehe)

Ice Cream will never taste as good as it did sitting on your front stoop eating it with a wooden spoon. Never.

This was always my little sister's jam! Strawberry shortcake Good Humor bars!
Yummy, creamy and crumbly.

Remember push ups? I always thought these looked so good... But sherbet melts fast in the heat of summer! So these were for sure not the wise choice.

Between Miss Me's ninth and tenth summer (years not grades)
My family made the move from Massachusetts to California. Obviously this was a giant change for me, my brother and sister. I remember being totally bummed over small things. Like the fact that Californians called the confetti like ice cream topping that we called "Jimmies"...."Sprinkles". Huh?
And what the F*CK are "Drumsticks?" in MA we had Nutty Buddies!
You can still, after 20 years in Los Angeles catch the "kids" in my family saying "That's wicked".

So on this dreary, cold raining winters day, let your mind wander back to the warm and sticky days of your youth... When you could take off full blast running down your block after the Ice Cream truck and no one looked twice.

Try that now! Who wants to see a chic in heels running down the pastry cart? Well, really I would like to see that.

Stay Gold.

Yummies: SOOO hearting Ice Cream Sandwiches!

OK,
so it's a very well known fact that us girlies at T.W.H. luuurrvveee us a good Ice Cream.  Sooo it stands to reason that during this uber hot day we craved nothing more than a pile of the creamy goodness.
But its super hard to be a tourista and take pictures with one hand on the spoon and one holding the cup!
How are we supposed to hold our crazy tourist accompaniments such as a camera, map, Hurricane and sanitizer???

Then like a glittery bolt of lighting...it hit us... ICE CREAM SANDWICHES!!!

Perf!  It only takes 1 hand to eat these fantasmic goodies!

We uber heart those I mean how could you  not.. 2 of the best gifts from the dessert gods put together?  Cookies and Ice Cream....Um, Yes Please!

So in our Hurricane haze and with our sore Pilates bodies we searched high and low (well in our crazy brains filled with yummy food knowledge) to bring you just a few of our most memorable finds...  and we do mean FINDS.

First up on the train of perfect foods that make even a better one when they are married (geez...Im winded just reading that!) is the cult fav. It's - It Bars...and for good reason.

During our business meeting (hee hee) when we talked about doing Ice Cream sandwiches we did a double jinx.. shouting "OMG we HAVE to do It's - It Bars!"
It's - It Bars are not exactly the norm. I.C.S. (Ice Cream Sandwich).  Delicious Ice Cream is lovingly smooshed between 2 oatmeal (not the norm chocolate chip or choc cookie here) cookies...yuuummmm... but get this!  Then its dipped in dark chocolate.  Yup!

They are super hard to find but the company knows that so they offer overnight frozen shipping.  These will change your I.C. love affair.  My mom has been in love with these for years and every time we are in S.F., where they are made and were created in 1928, she makes us go on a hunt for them.

Choo choo...here we go.. this is fun!  My hungry mouth and tummy are fighting with my trainer (well, boyfriends trainer but he tries to keep me in line too) because now with these next uber yummy and uber easy to find I.C.S., we are about to jump out of the hotel bed and find us these...
Hello sweet tooth and tummy satisfaction!

Chipwich... one of the OG nationwide, famous amos, I.C.S.  These are sooo good!  And super easy to find.  Most Ice Cream trucks have these delectable beauties.  And so do convenient stores, markets, ummmmm well almost everywhere. You can even rent a cart to come to your house!

But, maybe they (the trainer and my cellulite) will be ok if we grab one of these delish low cal but high yumminess sandwiches.  Thank you Skinny Cow for your super tasty treats.  You have really upped the ante with these.

You will totally think you are eating something waaay worse.  I mean, these probably shouldn't be eaten 3 times a day, but they are so low in calories for a satisfying dessert you could do them 1 a day :)  You're welcome!

And for our hero's, the Vegans, you should most definitely not be left out of the fun.  Here ya go!

Tofutti Cuties are soooo good you will have no idea they are Vegan.  And they are small and sooo full of flavor you will be super satisfied too!

Wanna be super cute and a hot Martha Stewart?  Make your own!

They are pretty easy.  We did these and it was the hit of a party (and it was a tough crowd there too).  Just make sure you cut out the sandwiches after the Ice Cream is between the 2 sheets and frozen for an hour.  Mucho easier.

OOOHHHH wait!  Mold your D.I.Y. I.C.S in these uber cute molds!!!

P.S. Don't wait until national I.C.S. day on August 2 to enjoy these goodies... you deserve them now!

P.P.S. If you are ever around UCLA or Westwood CA..plllease do yourself a huuuuge favor and go by Diddy Riese for a ridiculously amazing I.C.S. it will be worth every calorie.

Yummies: I scream, you scream, we all scream for ICE CREAM!

Oh wow, really? Are we gonna do it? Oh yes, dear ones, it is time to talk about God's gift to the taste-buds, it's time to talk ice cream. That delicious, creamy, yummy in your tummy goodness that comes in a cardboard tub. Remember being little and just eating and eating this stuff? Bowl after bowl, cone after cone.... Oh wait, maybe that is why the Things-We-Heart gals were both little chubby wubby's when we were kids .... We just couldn't stop!
But really, who could blame us? We know we were not alone!

Nowadays we still love our ice cream, although we settle for just one cone.
So, what ice creams do we reach for when the urge hits? Here are some of our favorites.

True blue, old school, hippie dippy! We heart Ben and Jerry's! Since 1988 this company has been putting their money where your mouth is. They have been active in reducing company waste, working with family farms to support sustainable farming, and maintaining a company policy of paying a livable wage, almost twice the national average for minimum wage. So if you are going to pay a company to make you fat, this is the place!
Plus, the ice cream is amazing and tastes like little frozen pots of heaven. Win-Win!

We also love those cute little Tofutti Cuties. Dairy free and totally delicious, you can pick them up in most grocery stores & Trader Joe's (at least here in california). Seriously, you would never know unless someone told you that these are soy. But remember just because they are made with soy, it does NOT make them vegetables. (We already tried to use that excuse.)

Last, but not at all least, we have Yogurt Land.... Ahhhh, sweet, tangy Yogurt Land. We know, we know, Yogurt Land / Pinkberry / Yogurt Land / Pinkberry, for now lets go with Yogurt Land.... Ahhh, sweet, tangy Yogurt Land... Oh, right pay attention we already said that. This is the place to go for delicious, serve yourself, frozen yogurt (and really, hasn't frozen yogurt counted as "ice cream" since like '88?). With toppings supreme this is like the olympics of the desert bar. It is really just so much fun to go into one of these shops. If you are felling good go for tangy plain fro-yo with tons of fruit, if you feel like indulging try some Dutch chocolate fro-yo with chocolate chips, and chocolate sprinkles, maybe some chocolate brownies crumbled on top.
YUMMIES!!

Have you ever noticed how pretty much every chick-flick portrays the sad girl, drowning her troubles in a pint of mint & chip. But somehow, at least for us, ice cream is not for when your sad, ice cream is for happy things! Ice cream is for celebrating birthdays and warm lazy summer days. It speaks of childhood and fun. So please, movie makers of the world, lets lay off the ice cream as a sedative gimmick, because really,  isn't that what chocolate is for.
