Spooky, yet lovely.....

Never has their been any doubt that the TWH gals love a good apothecary jar.
Our houses are littered in them, in our living-rooms, in our kitchens in the bathroom.

Anywhere something pretty is needed, why not make that something pretty an apothecary jar.
Year round we fill them with whatever strikes our fancy. But, if you are a regular reader then you also know that come holiday time... We let out our inner beasts A.K.A the little Martha Stewarts that live inside of us.

To put it another way, we are not afraid of a little holiday cheer and some thematic decorating!

So yes, right now Miss Me's apothecary jars are full off candy corn and autumn leaves, not mixed together of course, you wouldn't want to ruin all that yummy candy corn!

These pretty class canisters are the perfect way to show your holiday spirit with out going overboard on the blow-up frankensteins and the messy cotton spiders webs... (P.S. We love those too!) Here are a few of our top picks for grown-up Halloween chic.

We fell in love with these pretty labels from "A Fanciful Twist" go all the way and make your living room look like it could be a classroom at Hogwarts! These jars would also make the perfect gift for your friends, filled with yummy treats from your kitchen.

Looking for something a little more glowy?

These pretty yet erie hurricanes from Elizabeth Embelishments would work year round in your pretty house.
As would these super rad little skull toped apothecary jars complete with vintage inspired labels.

These would be perfect for your fellas music studio do-dads
(I know the husband is impressed with how technical I am)
or even for his toiletries year round... For Halloween keep them by your stove with tea bags and sugar... He can have them when the holiday is over.

But these, these are for you and you alone! No boys allowed unless of course you are a boy who squeals when anything Jonathan Adler is put in front of you.. Then these are for you too.

Love, covet, adore... Don't even care that you can't see what is inside... In this case, it is whats on the outside that counts! And we want these all year, we are just looking for an excuse to buy more... "Woops! It was a holiday sweetie, we needed that!"

We say it all the time, have fun with your decor! Don't take decorating so seriously! And try and buy things that you are always going to love and always going to use. These apothecary jars are perfect.. They let you have fun filling them with silly over-the-top-whatever-you-can-dream-ups.... And then they look just as pretty empty and shining in the sunlight from your window.

It's the simple things that make us happy, it really is.

Yummies: Candy Corn!!

Lets say that one day, Miss. Me & Miss. t.w.h were to find them selves on top of a New York city apartment building, busting some ghosts... And they were warned not to think of any one thing in particular because the evil spirt would take the shape of whatever they thought of and use that form to try and destroy them. It wouldn't be the Stay Puft Marshmallow man stomping through New York.

It would be the equally delicious and slightly less sinful Candy Corn Monster!

Because every year as Halloween draws near, our minds turn to one thing only....
CANDY CORN!!

Alright two things, Candy Corn and Costumes.
But, because this is yummies day lets talk Candy Corn!

Did you know that October 30th is National Candy Corn day?
Well, neither did we but we all know now and we intend to celebrate!

How about throwing a little Pre-Halloween candy corn party?

Here are some yummy looking recipes for Candy Corn cookies if you get bored of eating them straight from the bag... LIke that could ever happen!

First up comes from Miss Martha... So you know they are gonna be cute.

Also delicious looking, but lacking in actual Candy Corn are these candy corn inspired cookies from The Recipe Girl.

But like we said, the best way to eat them is very slowly one by one savoring every second straight from the bag! Yummy!

In case you are wondering Just what this candy corn is made of... Well look here.
The bad news is, it's nothing good for you... The good news is, they are fat free.
We call that a draw.

Oh my goodness! Look at these Candy Corn rattles! Little teething softies for the babies in your life. Looks like I know what my partner is getting for National Candy Corn Day!

Go ahead, be naughty eat some candy!
Halloween only comes once a year, and that means Candy Corn only comes once a year, enjoy it while you can!

Decor to DIE for: Haunt your house!

The word is out that we heart Halloween, and the truth is that we really do!
Our favorite part of Halloween, aside from the candy, and the costumes, and the excitement in the air... Is decorating!

We love to dress up our selves and our houses and celebrate All Hallow's Eve with our friends.

Now quick... tell us what lady comes to your mind when we say,
slightly frightening yet, undeniably intriguing sorceress of craft?

That's right! The mistress of all things holiday, Martha Stewart!
Needless to say about 99% of the beautiful haunted house ideas come from this women' s brain... Well, her and her power house staff of little Marthas.
Really, where would we be without her?

Because as much as we heart strobe lights and bowls of eye balls,
(We knew it was grapes in jelly all along!)
there comes a time in every host and hostesses life when we must put away childish things.
But that doesn't mean we can't have fun!
Welcome to lesson 101 in classy, elegant, and whimsical holiday decor!

Gauze cobwebs and the black table cloth mixed with the wilted lilly's equal spooky old house!

Wrap your mirrors in cheese cloth drape them in vines and add goblets and a smokey witches brew to your bar, to give it just the right flavor.
Note the bowl of pomegranates on the side table? Perfect for Halloween since pomegranates are the fruit of the dead!

We love the idea of draping your furniture with old white sheets to give the apperance of an abandoned house... This is really a useful trick if you are bringing in extra seating for your party that may not match you regular furniture.
Voila, instant haunted house!

And what better way to keep guests away from areas you want left alone? The candles and spiderwebs up the stairs make it look so spooky, no one will want to enter!

As for food and treats, we love holiday buffets. And since fall is the perfect time for soup... You can get a real witches cauldron and set it out for your guests!

Add in a desert table decorated with black candelabras and black glass cake stands loaded up with delicious treats!

Oh and it is always a plus if you can have someone dress like the creepy butler!
Didn't your husband need to find a place to wear his wedding tux again?

Then you can get busy serving drinks to all your guests on a mummy head tray!

Worried about your guests drinking too much and breaking your fine wine glasses?
Not to worry, we are big fans of the Target acrylic wine glasses! These ones are special for Halloween!

What's that you say Martha? Acrylic glasses are not classy? Well neither is getting down on your hands and knees in your mini-skirt Little Red Riding-Hood costume to pick up glass shards off the floor! Trust us, we have been there.

And for the beer drinking men in your life, poor that Harvest Moon pumpkin ale into these skull mugs!

Lets say you have 7 or 8 extra hours free while getting the house ready for your haunted house-warming.

Why no cut out a couple hundred different size tissue paper bats?
Sounds fun! See this is when Martha's staff comes in handy.

We have always loved black glass chandeliers... And holiday decorating seems like a really good reason to finally buy one!
The easiest and prettiest decorations are always flowers.
Did you know that you could make spooky flower arrangements?

Oh, those spiky blood red dahlias! We die.
We want those year round.

And don't forget the pumpkins! Your decor would not be complete with out them!

We really like how these guys are all piled up and all have either sad or spooky faces!

Now, we admit, this idea didn't come from the mind of Martha... But we love it! How creepy would it be to walk into the bathroom at a party and see this?

Ewww!

Have fun decorating your home for the holidays!

Keep it classy, Make it creepy!

Happy Halloween!

Random hearts: Trick or treat...smell my feet (ewww) give me something yummy to eat! We craaazzzyyy heart HALLOWEEN!

3 days and counting until our most favorite holiday in the whole wide world happens!!!!!!!!! (OK, it ties with Xmas time). But how exciting...

Halloween is coming!

Its the 1 time of the year where kids can be kids and grown ups can be kids. We get to wear super fun makeup and costumes and fool around and stuff our bellies with candy.

Oh and guess what? Halloween treats have NO calories! Woooo hooo...pass the candy corns and the butterfingers...mama's starting early.

Here is a short history of Halloween or All Hallows Eve (PS...yes it is cut and pasted from Wikipedia...I'm not the best re-typer)....

Halloween has origins in the ancient celtic festival known as Samhain, which is derived from Old Irish and means roughly "summer's end". The festival of Samhain celebrates the end of the "lighter half" of the year and beginning of the "darker half".

The celebration has some elements of a festival of the dead. The ancient Celts believed that the border between this world and the Otherworld became thin on Samhain, allowing spirits (both harmless and harmful) to pass through. The family's ancestors were honoured and invited home whilst harmful spirits were warded off. It is believed that the need to ward off harmful spirits led to the wearing of costumes and masks. Their purpose was to disguise oneself as a harmful spirit and thus avoid harm.

Now on to the fun stuff! Here is a small list to help you enjoy the holiday...

Grab a great costume
How rad is this "Barbie" costume! Yes, it could be suuuuper hard to get around the party in...
but just think of how many "Best Costume" awards you will win! See...super worth it.

You and your cutie bean BF need a costume together but don't feel like going thru too much hassle?
You guys would be sickeningly cute in this plug duo.

While you are at it, you should ask your poopie dog if he or she wants to dress up too!

Don't want to fuss?

DIY it with an easy to do hoodie costume!

Or just throw on a mask and you are RTG (but B-O-R-I-N-G)

Don't feel like going out to a party or trick or treating? Invite a few friends over for a Ghoul filled bash...

Make some super fun and creepy treats.

Loving these healthy yet super funny creepy teeth. They are made with apples and nuts!

Eyeball Doughnuts?!?!?! Really? Yes...heaven on a Halloween-ified Earth!
How cool are these Witches fingers? Easy to make and even easier to eat... done and done...

Oh my jeez!!!! Kids of all sizes will suuuper heart these spider cupcakes....we know we do!

Put in a uuber scary movie to get everyone in the mood.

We totally and crazy love The Others, Pet Sematary (yes...that's how it's spelled), and the classic, Halloween...

Or if you have the little ones with you how about The Nightmare Before Christmas! Or Beetlejuice!!!

Now, if you are still not convinced that Halloween is the most fun holiday ever...then grab some candy for your trick or treaters and let them have all the fun.

This is the best mix of candy ever!!! The only thing missing is the candy corn...but pop a few Butterfingers or Snickers and you just may say, "Candy Corn who?"

Oh how I wish we had trick or treaters in my neck of the woods...I would soooo lurve to pass out these amazing Gummy Teeth.

These pink and white fangs would be the hit of anyones pile o' candy at the end of the night. That was the best feeling! Pouring out our candy at the end of a successful night and trading your friends for your favs.

Don't feel like passing out fake teeth or chocolate? That's ok...pass out any kind of sweet treat, But please...oh please...do NOT pass out raisins...

Just remember how you felt as a kid when you put your paw in the pillowcase and pulled out a box.

But if you have to be healthy, then how about giving out some organic lollipops or gum?

Glee gum is an uber yummy alternative to the normal halloween sugary sweets... It's made with all natural ingredients, colors and flavors...(and NO corn syrup!)

OMG! Glee also has DIY candy kits!!! Wowzers!

These Yummy Earth Organic Lollipops will fool even your most sugar loving tot...
They are made with real fruit juice and organic ingredients. Yes Please!

So however you choose to spend your Halloween...spend it with friends...wisely and have FUN!!!!

Still need a costume...ahheemmm Miss t.w.h....that means YOU! Here are our 3 go to places for the best out there... Hollywood Toys and Costumes, Target, and Buy Costumes.

Here is a great website for the best tips and sometimes the ones we don't even think about ;)

Ben and Jerry's have a super fun website dedicated to the fun filled holiday.

Be safe...Be scary...HAVE FUN!

'Cuz before you know it...it's over.

P.S. Don't forget to turn your clocks back at midnight Halloween night. Wooo hooo and extra hour to party!

xoxo t.w.h.
